Hello all! In addition to our networking pamphlet for high school students, SuccessBaseMass has made a networking personality quiz so that students may identify what type of networker they are, and how they can expand their networking ability. Despite the designation received, remember that networking is a fluid, ambiguous concept. You can certainly be a combination of any of the four distinctions we’ve identified.

What Type Of Networker Are You?

If you are looking for a job, what is the first source you turn to?

What would you likely be doing at a networking event?

How would you likely meet someone in your career field?

What approach would you take in learning how to write a resume?

What types of extracurriculars do you find most enjoyable?

As a social networker, you likely feel most comfortable networking with your friends, meaning you gain and share most opportunities with your social circle, and feel most comfortable talking about goals with your peers. You enjoy networking casually, and can likely fit it easily into conversation. To comfortably expand your networking, we recommend that you join clubs and activities that will allow you to build your networking skills with new people. This will broaden your network.

Casual Networker

As a social media networker, you likely find most of your opportunities online, and feel most comfortable making connections on social media platforms. Your main platforms may include Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, or Reddit (we recommend visiting r/SuccessBaseMass!). This is an amazing way to have national, or even international, connections! To comfortably expand your networking, we recommend attending an online webinar, and having questions for the speakers or hosts. This will often help connect faces to names in the online networking world.

Social Media Networker

As a professional networker, you likely feel more comfortable engaging in networking in serious settings with teachers, employers, or career professionals, rather than with peers. You also likely enjoy the thought of events or seminars at which you can focus on expanding your network. To comfortably expand your networking, we recommend joining a professional organization, such as the Society of Women Engineers, or American Association of Blacks in Energy. This will introduce you to an entire community of professionals, along with several networking events.

Professional Networker

As an event-based networker, you likely feel most comfortable talking to people about your goals and interests during parties or workshops, especially those where most people have a similar networking-focused mindset. To comfortably expand your networking, we recommend talking to friends or teachers about your interests casually, or asking people that you see regularly if they know of any opportunities. This will expand your comfort networking in a casual setting.
