Response to I’ve said #8. Hundreds of…:
I grew up Catholic, and bacon was a “treat” we got when we visited grandma’s house. There were no dietary restrictions, but I don’t know if it’s the way she cooked it, but the smell always lingered for SO LONG.
When I was a teenager I decided to go Veggie, but when I went to college and sources of iron were limited, I started eating poultry again.
I converted to Judaism, but I belong to a very liberal reform movement. Most of the people are vegetarians, but sometimes (usually their husbands, lol) they eat bacon like it’s no big deal, like they don’t give it a second thought. That confused the crap out of me at first, especially when (during a Rosh Hashana Tashlich potluck) someone brought a Jimmy John’s sandwich, rife with bacon, inside the synagogue!
So, I guess my dislike for bacon has nothing to do with dietary restrictions or religious reasons, I just think it’s gross.
The smell of bacon still makes me sick.
I don’t understand how people like it SO MUCH. I mean, maybe on occasion, but not ALL THE FREAKING TIME!
