The Moment All Delena Fans Of "The Vampire Diaries" Have Been Waiting For

After years of petitioning online, us "Delena" shippers finally got the moment we so-desperately asked for, wanted and needed... the #DelenaRainKiss. And it was just as epic, and reassuring to the fans, as we dreamed it would be (even if it came to us in flashback form).

When you ship a TV couple so hard, so desperately and so passionately, and constantly tweet your scene dreams to the writers of a show, sometimes said scene you dream of turns into a reality. That is what happened on last Thursday's episode of "The Vampire Diaries." After years of petitioning for one of the show's favorite couples, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) to kiss in the rain, the writers finally delivered this scene to us. And all was right in the world.

The heavy persisting of this scene was even a hot topic at last March's "TVD" PaleyFest panel, where Ian and Nina tried to explain to fans that kissing in the rain was difficult, cold and made them sick, even. While completely understanding how this must really suck (no pun intended) for the actors, Delena fans didn't give up hope.

Leading up to last Thursday's episode, "Do You Remember The First Time?" sly teases made by Ian Somerhalder, "TVD" directors Michael Allowitz, Darren Genet and Joshua Butler popped up all over Twitter and Instagram. Julie Plec, "TVD's" showrunner teased on her own Twitter account that fans should stay dry since the episode was going to "enflame someone."

And in an epic moment towards the very end of the episode, after Damon tries his best to walk Elena down #DelenaMemoryLane, we finally get to see what he was referring to as his favorite moment they've shared together.

We see Damon and Elena standing under the stars waiting for the meteor shower, however, it starts down-pouring and when Damon insists that it's "time to abandon ship" (get it, fellow shippers?), Elena reassures him that it will clear up. They kiss passionately in the rain and when Elena pulls away briefly, she asks Damon to "promise me this is forever." He promises, he always does. Swoon. Watch the epic moment above.
