Australia may sit rather remotely on the planet compared to the rest of the world, but one thing we have in common with every single country is falling victim to stereotypes.
If it's not the notion that we ride kangaroos to school and throw shrimp on the barbie, it's that every inch of Australia is riddled with snakes, spiders and sharks.
While these massive generalisations and misconceptions continue to spread from person to place, I took to Reddit to see what makes Aussies stand out from the rest of you lot.
Here's what the world had to say when u/MJM_313 asked "What are some things every Australian does that might not seem normal in other countries?":
1. "Fucked a spider. It’s the reason we are here."
2. "Threatened a fly."
3. "Have you ever, ever felt like this?"
4. "Said that *insert neighbouring state* is shit."
5. "Seen The Castle."
6. "Hung the clothes out on a Hills Hoist."
7. And "used a Hills Hoist for goon of fortune."
8. "Played backyard cricket on Xmas day afternoon."
9. "Took part in school-based learn-to-swim classes."
10. "Said 'Fuckin' Telstra.'"
11. "Got burnt to shit."
12. "Scammed someone on RuneScape."
13. "Australia is the only country where people walk barefoot just for 'fun'."
14. "Pushed a mower uphill through long grass on a stinking hot day in nothing but a pair of thongs. Then afterwards, crack open a stubbie and suck back on a ciggie, admiring your handiwork and not being phased by the fresh cuts and gashes in your feet and legs."
15. "Vote."
16. "Say 'nah' when you mean 'yeah' and 'yeah' when you mean 'nah'. Call a cunt 'mate' and a mate 'cunt'."
17. And finally, "done a shoey."
What other iconic things have you seen your fair share of Aussies do? Let us know in the comments!
