Look, a big part of my childhood was spent watching MTV Cribs — the show in which stars gave us peasants an exclusive look inside their fancy-ass homes.
But I just found out something that is making me question my whole damn life: A lot of those mansions and luxury cars were RENTED FOR THE SHOW.
YUP. Like, some of the celebrities would straight-up borrow a house for the day just to shoot their episode. Everything is a lie!
For example, pop singer JoJo used her uncle's house on Cape Cod for her episode. She recently came clean about it in an interview with HuffPost:
The thing is, we didn’t have a home at that point. My mom and I were living out of suitcases and we were mostly in hotels. So that was actually my uncle’s house, on the Cape. That wasn’t my house. That wasn’t my stuff. When I was sitting on the spinny thing, that was his kids'. That’s the truth. I should’ve balled hard and been like, “Welcome to my crib, look at how luxurious it is,” and I should have rented out a place. But no. I just used my uncle’s crib. So that was me lying on Cribs.
And Ja Rule's "house" on Cribs was actually a four-day rental. In fact, after he shot his episode, he allegedly threw a huge party there, and the real homeowner ended up suing him.
British singer Robbie Williams used a fake house too and even hired a team of pretend butlers to be there on shooting day.
Rapper Redman used his real home for the show, but he later revealed that MTV producers had asked him to rent something nicer:
They wanted me to rent a house ... so I could open the big double doors. ... My shit was a little junkie, I didn't have time to clean, but [in the end] they loved it and it all worked out for the best.
And then there are the cars. 50 Cent showed off an extensive collection of luxury cars in his episode — which turned out to be rentals.
And Lil' Bow Wow's fancy cars? Well, he tried to pass them off as his own, but it turns out that those were most likely rentals too. Oops!
And there are lots more ~rumors~ online about other celebs who may have faked their houses. I can't list 'em all here, but.......like......you can google it!
