Over the past few days, women have begun to fight back against Instagram's well-known censorship of female nipples by posting pictures of themselves with photoshopped male nipples.
The campaign was created by a woman named Micol Hebron and was popularized recently by a user named Megan Hammond.
And quickly spread through the web.
But now, Orange Is the New Black and How to Get Away With Murder star Matt McGorry is taking it up a notch.
McGorry posted an old photo of himself on Instagram photoshopped with the nipples of Chrissy Teigen and Miley Cyrus, who have both fought back against nipple censorship on the site.
He explained why:
The banning of women's nipples may sound normal or even inconsequential as you think, "Well, women's nipples are more sexual than men's nipples". But that's not some scientific fact. It's because of how our society so heavily sexualizes women. And it should be up to the individual woman to decide if she wants to show them, just like men have the choice. Part of the stand of #FreeTheNipple is about the right of women to claim what their breasts and nipples mean to THEM, and not have that be defined by how men and much of society decides what their boobies mean. At this point, if you're still clinging to the notion of "well, that's just the way it's been," then you might reconsider thinking of yourself as a rational and progressive person.
He added he thinks it should be up to individual women to chose to post online, even their nipples. "At the heart of it, it’s simply about gender equality and equal rights," he wrote.
The actor said he considers himself a "newbie" supporter of the #FreeTheNipple campaign.
His post got almost 40,000 likes in just one hour, with people saying his support makes him even hotter.
The creator of the campaign is Micol Hebron. An earlier version of this article said Megan Hammond created the campaign, but she merely popularized it.
