Being An A&S; Ambassador As Told By The Office

Hi, I'm Stephanie, a current ambassador for the College of Arts & Sciences. This post includes some of my favorite parts of the ambassador program. It has truly been one of the most formative experiences in college because it provides vast opportunities to hone important skills like communication and leadership. 1. Meeting with prospective students

It may feel like forever since you were a high school student. But as soon as prospective students begin asking questions, you remember how unsure you were about college decisions too. Listening to students, hearing about their passions, and hopefully guiding them to a path for success is the most rewarding feeling.

2. Shaping the college through midterm projects

We take a 1 credit hour leadership course that meets on Mondays. Each semester, we work on a group project where we investigate an issue on campus, from low student voting rates in government elections to growing international student rates on campus, and propose solutions to meet the needs of the students. It is empowering to know that our research and proposals are considered by the administration.

3. Giving tours

You will develop rad communication skills by giving tours to prospective students. You may be showcasing the awesomeness of our new Jacobs Science Building to future STEM students at UK. Or, you may be escorting a student to a meeting on campus.

4. Interacting with other ambassadors

You even get to meet new people and make friends with fellow ambassadors! This program has it all. Each month. we get together for a social activity. This month is Graeter's Night. The most popular social event is a Thanksgiving Dinner at our instructor's house. It's neat to have made friends from majors I had never considered for myself, and I value their diversity.

5. Attending preview nights

The highlight of the ambassador program has to be the preview nights in the fall. We travel to different cities to provide information and answer questions for prospective students. We love sharing our favorite A&S experiences! When UK has given us so much to love, why not share it?
