13 Reasons Why Season 2 Of "Bridgerton" Should Be The Talk Of The Town

Dear reader, it’s officially tea time because Lady Whistledown is back with all of London's hot gossip for Season 2 of Bridgerton, which will officially drop on Netflix on March 25.

Just gleaning from the first season, we can expect the next installation to be another fun, frothy, romantic, horny Shondaland rodeo full of beautiful period costumes and killer string pop covers.

So loosen up your corsets: Here are all the things that we’re most stoked about for Season 2 of Bridgerton!

1. The plot will focus on Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey, who will now fully accept the responsibility of being the head of the Bridgerton family.

Frankly, Season 1 Anthony’s a bit of a pill to his family, especially to Daphne. But the poor guy also had his heart broken last minute by opera singer Siena Rosso, so we can’t fault him for wanting to turn over a new leaf by the end of the last installation. Let’s see how it all plays out in Season 2, when he tries to find the perfect spouse. 

2. Anthony has a new love interest: Kate Sharma.

From what we know of the plot so far, the curmudgeonly viscount’s new love interest is Kate Sharma. The Sharma family has come to London from Bombay, and Anthony has his eyes set on Edwina. The rub is Edwina’s protective sister Kate will do whatever she can to stop them from marrying because she finds him a bit of a rake. But, of course, Anthony and Kate catch feelings for each other soon enough. 

3. Anthony and Kate’s dynamic is totally giving us Pride and Prejudice vibes.

She’s not really afraid to call him out for being a bit of a pompous ass, as we see in this heated clip. Fans of enemies to lovers plotlines, this one’s for you!   

4. The twist is that Anthony’s also drawn to Kate’s sister Edwina, so there’s going to be a whole love triangle that unfolds.

"You can understand why he's drawn to both," Bailey told Entertainment Weekly. "And they're both drawn to him in turn. It's an interesting love triangle; it's dangerous when it's siblings. It's bestial between them in a way Season 1 wasn't. They're all animals with each other."   

5. We’re also stoked for the whole concept of Kate Sharma, who, according to Netflix, is a “smart, headstrong young woman who suffers no fools.”

She’ll be played by Simone Ashley, who’s already well loved from her role as Olivia on Sex Education.  

6. The Bridgerton cinematic universe is expanding with new characters.

In addition to Sharma, we'll also be seeing four new characters: Charithra Chandran as Kate's sister Edwina, Shelley Conn as Kate's mother Mary, Calam Lynch as a printer's assistant named Theo, and Rupert Young as a new member of the ton named Jack. 

7. The late Lord Bridgerton is also going to be making an appearance.

He'll be played by Charmed star Rupert Evans, who will likely appear in flashbacks. In the books, Edmund Bridgerton had a close rapport with his son Anthony and died from a bee sting when he was 38, leaving Anthony to be the head of the house. 

8. And if you’re tuning into Bridgerton for the sexy times, there’s going to be sexual tension between Anthony and Kate. Obviously.

Per the book blurb for Julia Quinn’s The Viscount Who Loved Me, the basis for Season 2 of Bridgerton, “Kate's the woman haunting his increasingly erotic dreams…”  

9. In fact, showrunner Chris Van Dusen promises that there's going to be just as many "thirsty moments" as Season 1, although with ~savvier~ lovers.

"There's always been a familiarity deep down with what Kate wants," Ashley told Entertainment Weekly. "That's what I love about shows like Bridgerton and Sex Education: They might be touching on slightly taboo topics, but these characters know what they want."  

10. No royal shade intended, but we're ready to see a new romance and a new side of Daphne!

Now that her romantic plot is over, we’ll be seeing more of Daphne’s relationship with her family. And hopefully, she'll give Anthony as much of a hard time as he did with her last season!

11. Regé-Jean Page officially exited the show and is no longer part of the cast (BRB, crying), but there's a sliver of a chance that he could make an appearance. Like, a very tiny sliver.

When prodded about a Season 2 cameo or guest appearance in a British GQ interview with Stuart McGurk in September 2021, Page is somewhat cagey. At first, he told the McGurk, “You know I couldn’t tell you!” But then Page followed up by asking, “Isn’t there something wonderful about being surprised by what you weren’t suspecting?” That's not a no, right? All of this is purely speculation, but we know that Daphne will mention Simon in some capacity. 

12. We should be getting more of the tea on Lady Whistledown, whose identity was revealed during the end of Season 1.

OK, so Lady Whistledown, London’s mysterious gossip writer, turns out to be none other than Penelope Featherington, who’s played by Derry Girls’ brilliant Nicola Coughlan. While dealing with her father’s death, Penelope will have people furiously on her back for her column, from her BFF Eloise to Queen Charlotte herself. Did anybody else get CHILLS when her voice synched up with Julie Andrew's in the trailer?   

13. There's a corgi!

How can we not be excited over a corgi? Kate and her sister Edwina can be seen in set photos with this cute pupper, who’s Kate’s dog Newton. In The Viscount Who Loved Me, Newton actually has a pretty significant role — Kate gets a feel for people based on how Newton reacts to them. Anthony Bridgerton better have some Milk-Bones on hand.
