They mailed cards and even packages to a P.O. box set up by his mom. She managed to keep all the mail hidden in a storage unit until the big reveal.

And now, he has some pretty amazing friends!

Today, they're celebrating Colin's birthday by throwing an open house Doctor Who-themed party at the Blue Box Cafe in Elgin, Illinois — and everyone is invited.

Colin's actual 12th birthday is this Monday, a day his family has deemed "Be Kind Day."

Colin's compassionate personality inspired this "pay it forward" mentality. His family is encouraging people to perform random acts of kindness, and to make sure they wear a bow tie (because Colin loves wearing bow ties) while they do it. Jennifer wrote on the page, "On March 9th, to celebrate Colin's 12th birthday, let's make kindness go viral!"
