1. "Edge of Seventeen" – Stevie Nicks (1981)
We'll start off with a reasonably easy one to begin. Which early 2000s pop hit sampled "Edge of Seventeen" by the legendary Stevie Nicks?
2. "Better Off Alone" – Alice Deejay (1998)
You may remember this original track from Alice Deejay, which was released as recently as 1998. But who gave it new life in 2013?
3. "Woman to Woman" – Joe Cocker (1972)
Getting the hang of it? Next up is the legendary rock 'n' soul singer Joe Cocker, but which rap legend sampled the horn and piano riff in the mid-1990s?
4. "I Got a Woman" – Ray Charles (1954)
The challenge here is how much of the intro to "I Got a Woman" you need to hear before guessing the correct answer. Three seconds? Five seconds? As long as 10 seconds?
5. "Tainted Love" – Soft Cell (1981)
Tainted Love was actually written back in 1965 by Edmund Cobb for soul singer Gloria Jones. The track was picked up nearly a decade later and re-recorded by Jones as a northern soul track in 1975.
This would be the version Soft Cell's Marc Almond heard in a UK nightclub, turning it into a worldwide synthpop smash in 1981. But who went on to achieve similar worldwide chart success with the sample?
6. "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me" – Barry White (1977)
This is quite tricky, so we'll give you a hint: It's a '90's Brit boy band alum who sampled this Barry White track and performed quite the striptease in the accompanying video.
7. "The Big Beat" – Billy Squier (1980)
Stadium rocker Billy Squier had some great success in the US in the 1980s, but to a younger audience, they're much more likely to be familiar with his beats. Amazingly "The Big Beat" has been sampled in over 200 different songs, but can you guess which we're looking for?
8. "Are You My Woman? (Tell Me So)" – The Chi-Lites (1970)
No clues this time. Can you guess which song the melodies of "Are You My Woman? (Tell Me So)" inspired?
9. "Little Miss Lover" – Jimi Hendrix (1967)
Right, we're really ramping the difficulty up now. Which critically acclaimed R&B artist sampled the drums of "Little Miss Lover" for a track on his 2012 debut album?
10. "More, More, More" – Andrea True Connection (1976)
Artists including Bananarama, Rachel Stevens, Samantha Fox, and Dannii Minogue have covered this popular 70s disco hit, but you're probably most likely to recognise the instrumental, which was sampled by which Canadian band in 1999?
11. "I Got The..." by Labi Siffre (1975)
UK songwriter Labi Siffre released six albums in five years in the early '70s, but you probably know him best for his 1987 comeback hit "Something Inside So Strong".
You'll have to be patient though with his 1975 song "I Got The..." to get the hint (or, you can skip ahead to around 2:20 when the penny should start to drop).
12. "Straight to Hell" – The Clash (1982)
And we'll end on an easy one. Which Hounslow-born rapper's 2007 hit took inspiration from "Straight to Hell" by The Clash?
