17 Wild Movie Conspiracy Theories That'll Kinda Blow Your Mind

We asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell us which movie fan theories genuinely blow their minds. Here are the wild results.

Warning: Some spoilers ahead. Also, these are just theories and aren't being presented as facts, so just have fun with this.

1. In Us, Adelaide wasn't the only person who was secretly switched by her doppelgänger as a child. Her son, Jason, was also replaced.

This explains why Jason can't remember how to do his magic tricks and why he builds tunnels instead of sandcastles at the beach. Also, Pluto is also the only tethered who doesn’t try to kill his double.

2. In It and Mary Poppins, Pennywise and Mary are actually from the same universe and species.

This is a very popular theory. It basically revolves around the fact that both Mary Poppins and Pennywise return after extended periods of time to help, can "regenerate" energy from a new group of children, and both lure a boy named Georgie away from his siblings with a paper toy.

3. In Wall-E, the robots secretly resorted to cannibalism in order to feed the passengers because they were in space for waaayyy longer than intended.

The humans in Wall-E were only supposed to be in space for five years, but they ended up spending 700 years there. There were obviously no fruits, vegetables, or animals in sight (like, they didn't even know what plants were), so the robots had no choice but to use all of the dead bodies that accumulated over the years as a way to feed the living passengers.

4. In Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Wonka only created the contest so he could pass along his factory to an unsuspecting person and avoid the health and safety violations.

Look, there's no way Wonka's chocolate factory was up-to-date on all of its health and safety inspections. Wonka knew that the only way to avoid getting fined and in trouble would be to get rid of his factory (and all legal obligations) to an unsuspecting person. After all, the chocolate factory was a literal deathtrap.

5. Also in Willy Wonka, the real identity of Wonka is actually... George Weasley from Harry Potter.

It's simple: George Weasley grew up to be Willy Wonka, the Oompa Loompas were actually house elves, and the factory was a continuation of Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. George, aka Willy Wonka, lived alone in the factory because he lost the closest person to him: his twin. That's also why everything in his office was cut in half, literally signifying that he was missing his other half.

6. Speaking of Harry Potter, the entire Wizarding World was completely fabricated by Harry as a coping mechanism to help deal with his abusive family.

There's no doubting that Harry Potter had an extremely difficult childhood. While those events are detailed in the novels, this theory claims that Harry made up the whole Wizarding World as a way to help deal with his abusive family. After all, he spent his entire childhood trapped in the cupboard under the staircase, so he needed something to give him hope.

7. In the Toy Story series, Jessie's original owner grew up to be Andy's mom.

There are a bunch of details that support this theory, but I'll keep it short. In Toy Story 2, we got a glimpse into Jessie's heartbreaking backstory in a montage that followed her original owner, Emily, growing up. Emily's room was full of psychedelic decor and a record player, indicating that she grew up in the '60s and '70s. Andy was a child in the '90s (we know this from the first Toy Story movie), so this timeframe lines up with his mom's age.

Then the montage showcased Emily's cowboy hat, which looked identical (though worn down, which is expected) to the one Andy had. Lastly, even though we never saw Emily's full face, her haircut and hair color are eerily similar to Andy's mom's.

If you think about it, this full-circle moment meant Jessie was returned to her original family.

8. In Scream, Stu and Billy were secretly hooking up with each other when they weren't murdering people.

Billy and Stu both admitted that they spent a lot of nights watching scary movies together to help plan the murders. While there's nothing super fishy about that, you have to read between the lines. Also, just look at the way Stu stared at Billy in that bottom pic. He totally wanted it.

9. In Grease, Sandy actually drowned in the beginning of the film. The last shot of the movie (her flying in the sky in the car) signified that she was on her way to heaven.

In "Summer Nights," Danny sang about how Sandy almost drowned. This theory, originally posted to Reddit, claimed that Sandy actually died at the beach that day: "As she drowned and her brain was deprived of oxygen, she had a vivid coma fantasy involving her summer fling with Danny... The visions got increasingly outlandish as time passed, until, finally, as Danny desperately tried to resuscitate her on the beach." She died, and the movie ended with Danny (an angel) taking Sandy to heaven.

10. ~Or~ in Grease, Sandy still drowned, and Danny died while trying to save her. The movie was actually about what Danny's life with Sandy would have been like if they survived.

Danny envisioned his life with Sandy, despite having never gotten to know her. He even invented a fake name for her (think about it: "Sandy" because they were at the beach). Then the movie ended with both of them in the car "going to heaven."

11. In Monsters, Inc., Sully was eventually killed and turned into a toilet seat cover.

This one hurts, so I'll keep things short: In Monsters, Inc., Randall said that humans were known to catch, kill, and skin monsters, ultimately using their fur as toilet seat covers. In the Pixar animated short Partysaurus Rex, the toilet seat cover in Bonnie's house perfectly matched the print on Sully's fur. Coincidence? I think not.

12. In A Christmas Carol, the whole movie was actually a thinly-veiled metaphor about forcibly converting Jews to be Christians.

Obviously the movies were adapted from the Charles Dickens book of the same name, but that doesn't change this theory. The plot focused on Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly old man who didn't celebrate Christmas. He was then haunted by his old business partner who warned Scrooge of his terrible fate if he didn't change his ways (i.e. convert). Scrooge was then terrorized by three ghosts to really drive home that point and to make him see the light.

13. In Frozen, Hans wasn't the real villain. The rock trolls were.

The trolls had the ability to heal and alter memories, so what makes you so sure they never used their powers for evil? They clearly had motivation by wanting Kristoff to marry Anna, which would make them one step closer to power and royalty. The trolls even spent the whole song "Fixer Upper" trying to convince the two that Anna's engagement to Hans meant nothing and that she should marry Kristoff anyway. Their mind-altering powers also explain why Hans seemed so genuine in the first half of the movie but then abruptly became the villain.

14. In Titanic, Jack was actually a time traveler who was tasked with saving Rose's life.

There were a couple awkward things that stood out about Jack in Titanic, which was why so many people believed he was actually from the future and went back in time to save Rose. For one, he mentioned ice fishing at Lake Wissota, a man-made lake that wasn't built until 1917 (five years after the Titanic sank). He also told Rose that he wanted to take her on a roller coaster ride on the Santa Monica Pier, but that wasn't built until 1916. Lastly, his haircut and bag weren't popularized until the 1930s, two decades after the movie took place. I rest my case.

15. In The Incredibles, Jack-Jack grew up to be Syndrome and traveled back in time to get revenge on his family for rejecting him after he lost his powers.

This would also explain why Syndrome tried so hard to gain his Mr. Incredible's approval, since he was actually his son.

16. In Joker, the ending actually took place several years after the rest of the movie.

If you've already seen Joker, then you know how unreliable Arthur was as the narrator. Things were never truly as they appeared to be. In fact, this theory claims that his entire meeting with the psychiatrist took place years after the rest of the events in the movie. Everything beforehand was basically just Arthur recounting his earlier memories and piecing things together, giving the viewer an idea of how he became the Joker. 17. And in Elf, despite just visiting every house in the world, Santa still had leftover presents in his sack. Those gifts were for all the children who died between the time when he packed his bag and delivered everything.

This theory is morbid, but it makes sense. One could also argue that the leftover presents were for people who were originally on the "nice list" but ultimately did something naughty in the short time period, and they weren't worthy of the new gifts from Santa.
