21 Unscripted Marvel Moments That Were So Good, They Made It Into The Movies

"Bitch, please. You've been to space" was improvised by Samuel L. Jackson in the new Spider-Man movie.

We asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell us their favorite improvised and unscripted moments from Marvel movies over the last decade. Here are the hilarious and genius results.

1. In Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark's entire death scene was completely made up on the spot.

Tom Holland revealed in an interview that only a couple people were on set to film Tony Stark's death scene: Kevin Feige (Marvel's president), the Russo brothers (the directors), Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow, Robert Downey Jr., and himself.

The four cast members showed up to set and were given a loose outline of what was going to be shot: "They kind of told us what was going to happen – or what they wanted to happen – and then we just sort of improvised." Holland said it was a "really, really interesting way to shoot such a pivotal scene in the movie."

2. In Spider-Man: Far from Home, Samuel L. Jackson improvised the iconic "Bitch, please. You've been to space" rebuttal after Peter claimed he was just a neighborhood Spider-Man.

Samuel L. Jackson was specifically asked about this line in an interview, and he couldn't 100% verify if it was in the script or not, but then Jake Gyllenhaal chimed in and said, "It was improvised. I'm here to attest that was improvised."

3. In Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark's final line ("And I... am... Iron Man") before snapping his finger was added last-minute by the film's editor.

When they originally shot this scene, Tony didn't have any lines after Thanos said, "I am inevitable." One of the Russo brothers admitted that the scene felt kind of lackluster because of it: "We were in the editing room going, ‘He has to say something. This is a character who has lived and died by quips.’ And we just couldn’t [figure it out]. We tried a million different last lines."

But then Jeff Ford, the film's editor, suggested they go for a full-circle moment and have Tony repeat his iconic "I am Iron Man" quote. The Russo brothers loved it, exclaiming, "Get the cameras! We have to shoot this tomorrow."

4. In Captain Marvel, during a take when the Skrull was on the autopsy table, Samuel L. Jackson randomly decided to lift up the cloth to see the naked alien, and they kept it in the movie.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the film's directors, spoke about this scene in the DVD directors' commentary. Fleck said, "He just did this, and we kept it in because we thought it was pretty funny." Iconic.

5. In Thor: Ragnarok, Chris Hemsworth completely fabricated the whole childhood snake story off the top of his head.

Director Taika Waititi revealed that they shot about six different versions of that story, and the snake one stuck. Apparently another version involved Thor's love of Turkish rugs: "In this one say: 'I was walking through a field, and I saw a lovely Turkish rug in the middle of the grass, and I love Turkish rugs, so I went to stand on it, and it was Loki and he turned back into Loki and there was a hole and I fell through the hole and was impaled on a whole lot of spikes.'”

6. In Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland forgot his blocking, so RDJ stayed in character and said "you're supposed to move now so I can sit on the bed."

The whole thing was revealed in the movie's DVD commentary: “This line right here about the leg. Tom forgot the blocking of the scene and of course that’s Robert staying in character, telling him, 'You’re supposed to move now so I can sit on the bed.' Not only does he use it, but he uses it in a way that’s really entertaining and fun. That’s such a dexterous and inventive move on an actor’s part."

7. In Avengers: Infinity War, Winston Duke and some other cast members started doing unscripted war chants from Black Panther, so they added them into the movie.

Black Panther and Infinity War were being shot at the same time in Atlanta, so the Russo Brothers (the directors of Infinity War) were shocked when Winston Duke (M'Baku) randomly led a war chant during a scene. The Russo brothers loved it and even said it "led to the responding war cry that T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) leads... A year ahead of time, we had no idea 'Wakanda forever!' was going to be amazing."

8. In Doctor Strange, Benedict Cumberbatch made an impromptu joke about Wong's name and called him "Beyoncé," whom he's never heard of. In the next scene, Wong was listening to Beyoncé as "research."

In an interview, the actor who plays Wong (whose real name is fittingly Benedict Wong) confirmed that it was improvised. He said Benedict Cumberbatch "just threw [the lines] at me," and he reacted accordingly.

9. In Avengers: Infinity War, Dave Bautista improvised the iconic "Why is Gamora?" bit.

The script was supposed to end with Robert Downey Jr.'s line, but Dave Bautista, who played Drax, randomly added "I'll do you one better: Why is Gamora?," to which screenwriter Chirstoper Markus replied: "OK, you’re very good at your job."

10. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Robert Downey Jr. improvised the "please be a secret door, please be a secret door" line right before the secret door opened.

11. In Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan ad-libbed the "Hey, auntie" line when addressing Angela Bassett's character for the first time.

During an interview, Angela Bassett "auditioned" for the role of Killmonger, and after performing the famous Michael B. Jordan line, she said, "I think he improvised that line, too."

12. In Thor: Ragnarok, Chris Hemsworth created the whole "get help" gag off-the-cuff.

Director Taika Waititi really wanted to showcase Chris Hemsworth's comedic talents, and there were plenty of opportunities. They often shot scenes multiple times and in a lot of different ways: "He encouraged improvisation from his stars and was happy to shoot loads of versions of each scenes to tease out the comedy – and in the 'Get Help' scene it definitely did the trick."

13. In Captain America: The First Avenger, Hayley Atwell instinctively touched Chris Evans' massive pecs while shooting the scene where she first saw him shirtless.

The director liked it so much that they even shot a few different versions of that scene: "When Chris Evans first took his shirt off on the set of Captain America, I just instinctively grabbed his man boob. They kept it in the film. So we did a couple of takes of me being really inappropriate with my hand on his pec for the duration of the scene."

14. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jeremy Renner joked about shooting Quicksilver in the back before the camera stopped rolling, and they kept it in.

15. In Thor: The Dark World, Chris Hemsworth was playing with Thor's hammer between scenes and thought it'd be funny to hang it on the coat hook during one of the takes.

While discussing the latest Thor movie, Kevin Feige admitted that they wanted to bring a lot of Chris Hemsworth's natural humor into the character and scenes: “With this movie, Taika takes a little page out of the little moments in the other Thor films where Hemsworth is funny, like his improv of hanging his hammer on a coat hook in The Dark World.”

16. In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. improvised that whole "hug" scene.

Tom Holland said that he just thought it'd be funny to try to hug RDJ during the scene, "and Robert's instincts are so good that he was like, 'Oh, I'm not trying to hug you. I'm just trying to get the door.' And then when we did it you heard all the producers laugh."

17. In The Avengers, Robert Downey Jr. always hid snacks around the set for when he got hungry. One day he randomly offered Chris Evans blueberries in the middle of a scene, and they kept it in.

18. In Thor, Chris Hemsworth ad-libbed the "another!" line after drinking his first sip of coffee, and then he threw the cup on the ground.

19. In Black Panther, Winston Duke decided to make gorilla sounds to assert M'Baku's power when Martin Freeman's character tried to step in.

Director Ryan Coogler said in the DVD commentary that the improvised animal sounds were a perfect ad-lib because the character of Ross was "very powerful where he's from, so there's this idea to kind of get in there and talk and mix it up, but this was M'Baku's way to say 'nah, I'm not talking to you right now.'"

20. In Thor: Ragnarok, the "He's a friend from work!" line was actually improvised by a kid from Make-A-Wish who was visiting the set.

You probably know that a lotttttt of Thor: Ragnarok's dialogue was improvised, but one of the most famous lines from the film was actually ad-libbed by a child. Chris Hemsworth recalled the event, saying, “We had a young kid, a Make-A-Wish kid on set that day. He goes, ‘You know, you should say, ‘He’s a friend from work!'” Everyone loved it, and the rest was history.

21. And, of course, in Avengers: Infinity War, Tom Holland improvised his final lines before disintegrating and turning to dust.

Joe Russo, a co-director on the film, told Tom Holland to “act like you don’t want to go," so that's exactly what Tom did.
