10 Really Scary Movies That Are – Believe It Or Not – Actually Scary

Who doesn't love a good horror movie?

I crave that feeling of adrenaline rushing through my body, and don't even get me started on the goosebumps. So, I've compiled a list of horror movies that I believe are deserving of that title. Let's ride:

1. The Descent (2005)

This movie right here... chills.

It's one of those movies you can watch over and over without getting tired of it, and in my opinion, is extremely underrated. Six friends taking a trip to a mysterious, unexplored cave alone? That doesn't sound like a good idea at all. The first time I watched it was when I was a child and it scared the crap out of me. I still get a bit anxious when watching it to this day even though I already know what happens.

2. Dead Silence (2007)

This movie makes the Chucky franchise look like, well... child's play. I was never afraid of dolls until this movie. Dead Silence is another movie that doesn't get hyped up as much as it deserves to be. To be honest, I wouldn't recommend this movie if you're REALLY afraid of dolls. However, if you do decide to give this movie a try, I can promise you that you'll always remember that darn nursery rhyme.

3. Final Destination 3 (2006)

Ah, the Final Destination franchise. One of my favorites.

I enjoyed all of them (the fifth one, not so much), but the third installment is definitely my favorite. I consider this movie scary because it really opens the possibility of death happening with everyday things. This movie heightened my fear of roller coasters and not until a year or so ago was I able to overcome it... sort of. ANYWAYS, if you're looking for a film that doesn't include monsters, dead girls walking out of TVs, or exorcisms, this may be the horror flick for you.

4. Dawn of the Dead (2004)

I couldn't leave a zombie movie out of this list.

I prefer zombie movies where the zombies are fast rather than slow. It's more exciting, scary, and fun that way. This 2004 remake takes the cake, that's for sure. The opening scene of this movie just hits different. I feel nostalgia whenever I watch it. I just remember hiding behind a book shelf as a kid watching that scene. Good times.

5. Scream (1996)

I'm sure you've heard of this movie as it's a horror classic. If you haven't, are you living under a rock?

Scream gives audience members a mystery to solve as well as some good laughs. This movie is always a fun watch and is known for shaping the modern horror genre. Wes Craven did such a good job with this movie, from the plot to choosing the actors to star in it.

I'll leave you with this one tip if you decide to give this one a watch: trust no one.

6. Cloverfield (2008)

I'm usually not a fan of found footage films, but I didn't mind this one at all. From this perspective, the movie was even scarier and made it such a fun ride to watch it in theaters. Movies that include monsters and things unknown are always a joy to watch. The storyline was interesting and the movie overall was just nicely made.

If you're a fan of these kinds of movie, I would recommend giving it a watch.

7. The Orphan (2009)

This is another movie that isn't suuuuper scary but does provide an interesting and thrilling storyline. This is probably the least scariest movie on this list so far so if you want to start easy, this movie is the way to go. The Orphan leaves viewers with a twist they didn't see coming. I won't spoil it for you so you'll have to watch to find out.

8. The Strangers (2008)

This movie... omg.

This movie will have you fearing the thought of being home alone. This movie is probably one of the most intense and chilling movies I've ever seen. I mean, this one has a truly terrifying atmosphere. I really enjoyed everything about The Strangers – the acting, the storyline, the paranoia. ~Chef's kiss~

9. 28 Weeks Later (2007)

Yes, ANOTHER zombie movie, and yes, they are running. Sorry, not sorry.

That scene where the wife is screaming for her husband... oof, my heart. The AUDACITY of him to ditch her and run? I'll never get over that. Other than that, it's a pretty good movie, especially if you're into gore and all that jazz. There's another sad part of the movie, but you'll see what I am talking about when you watch it.

10. And lastly, The Woman in Black (2012)

To end our list, I leave you with this movie starring Daniel Radcliffe, otherwise known as Harry Potter.

While slow, the moments that are actually scary and the compelling storyline make it worth the watch. It's one of those cliche movies where the house is "haunted," but cliche or not, I find this truly horrifying at points.
