Ibn al-Haytham, Latinized as Alhazen, died c. 1040, in (Cairo, Egypt), is a mathematician and astronomer who made significant contributions to the principles of optics and the use of scientific experiments.

The first successful attempt at human flight was accomplished by Abbas ibn Firnas in 875 CE in the city of Qurtuba Al-Andalus (Cordoba, Spain).

He was also very intelligent and detailed in his work! Abu al-Qasim Al-Zahrawi (936-1013 CE), also known in the West as Albucasis, was an Andalusian physician. He is considered as the greatest surgeon in the Islamic medical tradition.

Do you enjoy travelling? If you do, there is much to thank Mariam Al-Astrulabi for! Mariam designed astrolabes, what some would call "old fashioned smartphones" in our current modern context. Without this, people wouldn’t have been able to find their way and explore the beauty of the Earth! Mariam Al-Astrulabi lived in the 10th century in Aleppo, Syria and was a famous scientist who designed and constructed astrolabes.
