We Diagrammed Common Football Plays With Skittles So You Don't Have To

Football has never looked so delicious!

By now, you've probably heard the word "football." But did you know that it's also an extremely popular sport? To help you understand a little more about the game, we've diagrammed some of the most popular football plays in a language you're sure to comprehend: Skittles!

From the shotgun position (where the quarterback isn't standing right behind the guy who hikes the ball), the quarterback completes a quick pass to a receiver behind the line of scrimmage, who then runs with it. This classic, simple play is a great way to gain small yards.

A tight end runs a quick pass pattern toward the outside of the field and behind the wide receiver and cornerback. The skinny/post corner play is great for medium- to high-yardage gains!

Rather than running a traditional pass play, the wide receiver runs behind the quarterback for a pitch or handoff, turning a pass play into a run play. Additional pitches and/or handoffs can be added to further confuse the defense.

This is a trick play where the quarterback passes to a receiver, then the receiver quickly pitches the ball to another player who is running past him. This is legal as long as the receiver pitches the ball behind him, not ahead of him. Otherwise it's an illegal pass!

A common play in backyard football games everywhere. Just before snapping the ball, the quarterback claims to get a phone call from an important person (e.g., "the wife," "my sick brother," "my daughter's daycare," etc.). While the defense is waiting for the call to end, the quarterback darts downfield followed by nine minutes of arguing about whether that was a "cheap" play or not.

This trick play involves the perfectly timed release of a horde of flesh-eating zombies from behind the offense. It's very efficient for driving the defense downfield, but it should only be used as the final play in a game because — let's face it — nobody is going to survive this one!

In this simple run play, the running back summons a magical rainbow bridge through one of the many common ways of doing so (an enchanted amulet, a kiss from a unicorn, burying a leprechaun's gold on the field, etc.). Once the rainbow bridge has been summoned, the running back bypasses the defense and jogs into the end zone — or to a magical rainbow dimension, depending on the rainbow!
