Jeffrey Tambor plays Maura Pfefferman, who's in the process of telling her three adult children — who knew her as their father, Mort — that she's transgender. The show follows not only Maura's own personal journey, but also each member of the family's path alongside. As Pfefferman remarks in one scene,“I don’t know how I raised three people who cannot see beyond themselves.”
