Australian teenager Kirra-Belle Olsson's daily surf almost ended in disaster on Friday morning when a shark bit her leg as she dropped in on a wave.
13-year-old Kirra-Belle is one of Australia's most promising young surfers.
After the attack she was carried out of the water and taken to hospital by her father.
The shark made a bit of a mess...
...slicing Kirra-Belle's leg and ankle in several places.
"I took the wave and then felt something grab my foot," Kirra-Belle told ABC News.
"I thought it was a mate behind me trying to scare me, Then the third time it swung me around and tried to pull me under."
"I saw the tail and I was just like, 'whoa', and I didn't know what to do, so I just started screaming. I paddled in and I was in shock and just started laughing."
"I thought 'whoa', what the hell. I just got bitten by a shark, Oh My God."
"I think my wetsuit stopped it from going through to my bone," she said.
Despite her wounds, Kirra was quick to absolve the shark of responsibility.
Bull sharks are one of NSW's most dangerous sharks due to their aggressive nature and preference for shallow waters close to shore.
The talented Rip Curl-sponsored surfer was at Avoca Beach on the New South Wales Central Coast when she landed on top of the shark at 6.30am.
