This Woman Rescued Her AirPods From The Subway Tracks And It's Exactly What I Needed To See Today

    I just shed a tear.

Twitter user and true inspiration Ashley Mayer experienced a tragedy that could only be experienced in the 21st century: she lost one of her AirPods while waiting for the subway.

The AirPod fell out of my ear several feet away from the edge of the subway platform, but I’ve never seen anything more inevitable. RIP little buddy. Thanks for all the podcasts.

My actual reaction upon reading this:

Mayer, who, according to her Twitter bio, lives in New York and works in communications at Glossier, seemed to come to terms with her loss...

While I’m understandably shattered, I’m proud of myself for: 1) Not lunging after it and becoming the first ever AirPod-related subway death. 2) Still going to the gym against all odds and without entertainment!!!

...UNTIL she discovered her fallen soldier was still there the next day!!!

Omg you guys he’s still down there 💔 (I had asked to have him rescued yesterday but it was going to take two hours and I had to be present)

So she decided to take matters into her own hands.

Game on. (The romaine is for dinner, not rescue.)

She should change her last name to MacGyver IMHO.

Ashley unfortunately did not provide footage of the actual rescue mission, but I provided this diagram of what I think it might have looked like:

    The result?

    He’s filthy but he’s mine (again)! 🏆

    I'm not crying, you're cyring!!!

She then promptly took the little guy home, let him recharge, gave him a good disinfecting, and stuck him back in her ear like a goddamn hero.

I dedicate this selfie to the germaphobes. (You may be onto something, guess we’ll see!) Verdict: he’s working wonderfully 👌🏼🎵

Name a more heartwarming tale in 2019. I'll wait.

In the meantime: Ashley, we salute you. Keep enjoying those podcasts!
