Pop-Up Porn Books Exist And This Is What They Look Like

    Canadian filmmaker Stephen Dunn has created a webseries that features pornographic pop-up picture books being read aloud.

    The series, which is called Pop-Up Porno, was released publicly online earlier this month, after premiering at Sundance Film Festival in January.

    Dunn told BuzzFeed, "They were a pretty big hit at Sundance... It’s a bit of a gamble because you can never tell if something like this will catch on."

    So far, the series contains three videos, each a true story about the trials and tribulations of online dating.

    Dunn says the inspiration for this project emerged from a chat with friends last summer. "We realised we couldn't recall the last date we went on that wasn't with someone who they'd met online somehow. Yet there's still a stigma against it for some reason."

    Each pop-up book takes about one month to complete.

    It's a collaborative effort between designers, the writer, and Dunn himself. They sit down with the author of the story and accordingly create an aesthetic to suit the tale. So far, Dunn has worked with cartoonists like Steve Manale and noted homoerotic fetish artist Tom Of Finland.

    Dunn hopes to continue making more pop-up books and videos in the future.

    "Regardless of what happens they're fun as hell to make, and as long as people keep sharing stories and we have enough money to pay our crew and the book designers, I'm happy to keep making more."

    Ultimately, Dunn hopes to normalise the use of dating apps/sites and shed the taboo surrounding online dating/hook-up culture.
