Since It's October Now, Here Are 7 Of My Favorite Halloween TV Episodes To Prepare You For Spooky Season

It's heist time.

1. Parks and Recreation – "Greg Pikitis"

I'll start with Parks and Rec, since it's the oldest show on this list. "Greg Pikitis" is the seventh episode in Season 2, and it's one that will definitely put you in the spooky season mood. From Leslie staking out a 16-year-old vandal to Tom dressed as T-Pain to Andy creating his iconic alias, Burt Macklin, this episode has tons of hilarious moments you won’t want to miss. Besides, the city of Pawnee provides a perfect fall background.

2. Modern Family – "Open House of Horrors"

Modern Family has so many good Halloween episodes, so I couldn't not put one on this list. "Open House of Horrors" is the fifth episode of Season 4, and it has actual creepy moments as well as the super funny ones. Mitch and Cam throw a costume party that goes awry (like usual), Gloria seeks vengeance on some trick-or-treaters, and Claire tries to prove to Phil that she is scary, to no avail.

3. New Girl – "Keaton"

Like every episode of New Girl, Episode Six of Season 3 is full of shenanigans, but this time, it's Halloween. Nick, Winston, and Jess send Schmidt emails from his "old friend" Michael Keaton, and as usual, everything ends up backfiring in a hilarious way. Additionally, the decorations in the loft are perfectly Halloween-y, and Jess's Joey Ramone-a Quimby costume is spot on.

4. Black-ish – "The Purge"

Black-ish is another show that pops off every Halloween, so it was hard to pick my favorite. But since I have to choose, I'll go with Episode 5 of Season 3. Junior and Dre get in a full-blown prank war that involves Charlie fake-dying (or does he really die?), and Junior tumbling down the stairs. On top of that, there's a neighborhood "mischief night," which brings on total Halloween chaos. Not to mention the family Halloween costume, which is always a treat.

5. Superstore – "Costume Competition"

Superstore is one of the relatively newer shows on this list, but its Halloween episodes are still classics. The plot for Episode 4 of Season 4 surrounds a costume contest that causes Amy and Mateo to manipulate their coworkers. Meanwhile, Garrett is haunted by a song and Glenn is haunted by a...cart robot? The whole thing has perfect Halloween vibes and, like all of Superstore, it's hilarious.

6. WandaVision – "All-New Halloween Spooktacular!"

Don't watch this one if you haven't already seen the rest of the show, because there are some major spoilers. While WandaVision itself is more of a drama, Episode 6 definitely reminds me of the sitcoms of my childhood and makes me nostalgic for trick-or-treating as a kid. But add an unexplainable underlying weirdness to the mix and you have a mysteriously creepy Halloween episode. If you don't watch it for the plot, at least watch it to see Wanda and Vision dressed up as a "Sokovian fortune teller" and a "Mexican wrestler." *wink wink*

7. And Brooklyn Nine-Nine – The Heists

Of course, I saved the best for last. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is basically known for its incredible and elaborate Halloween episodes, and they're all so good that it was impossible to pick one. So I didn't. Each episode is centered around a Halloween heist in which the squad competes against each other for the title of "Amazing Detective/Genius." There are all sorts of antics, such as Jake hiding in the ceiling, Rosa jumping off a building, and Terry dancing while covered in gold paint from head to toe. And there's always an appearance of the beloved Cheddar the Dog to look forward to. A quick binge of all eight of the Halloween heists will surely put you in the spooky season mood and will have you shouting, "It's Halloweeeen!"
