Hey World - UD Has Been This Awesome Since 1850

We've been at this since 1850 - the rest of the world is just starting to notice.

The world has learned a lot about the Dayton Flyers recently. Mostly, about how awesome we are. The world is getting glimpses of what the UD community is all about. But really, that's all they are - glimpses. It's tough for anyone who hasn't experienced it themselves to understand. We certainly are the great things people have seen - we do wait up til 3am to welcome back the basketball team. And hell yeah our President crowd surfed through the ghetto. But it doesn't end there. Not by a long shot.

It gets tossed around a lot - the word 'community' - when it comes to describing UD. It gets tossed around so much it almost becomes cliche. It almost becomes overused. Until we get reminded of what a community we truly are. Then it doesn't seem so cliche anymore. It doesn't seem so overused - when we pick each other up like this.

When we give 1,500 meals to members of our community that could use them; that just need a little help getting back on their feet after they've been knocked down. When we do something like that - and accomplish it in half a day - the word community doesn't seem overused at all. It seems right on the money.

Yes, community gets used a lot with UD. But apparently, there's a reason for it. When you give so much to each other, it's justified. You become the beacon - showing the world what community truly is.

So while the world might just be remembering the Flyers; while they continue to be amazed with how we come together - we can enjoy the attention.

But in the back of our minds, we have to chuckle. Because 'world' - we've been doing this since 1850. You're all just starting to notice.

Stand4 will be continuing this simple promise throughout the rest of the tournament: for every person who says they're rooting for the Flyers, we'll give a meal to a fellow Flyer fan in need.

We might be looked at by the rest of the world as the underdogs who had a good run, but aren't cut out for taking it all the way.

But somebody's gotta win - why not us?

And in the process, we'll show the world why it is that the Dayton Flyers are a certain kind of community - the likes of which March Madness has never seen before.
