1. Red Bull® Air Race World Championship

The Red Bull Air Race is an experience you and your senses will never forget. The thundering engines shake you in your seat. The smell of fuel wafts past your nose. The sight of the high-performance aircraft zooming by at 300+ mph will leave you breathless. It’s pure adrenaline, and it delivers. On April 15–16, you can enjoy gorgeous views of Coronado and downtown San Diego as these daring pilots race just above you and out over San Diego Bay.

3. Extreme Sailing Series™

This ain’t your grandpa’s kind of sailing, and these are definitely not the kind of sailboats you might be imagining. When the Extreme Sailing Series makes its way to San Diego October 19–22, you can catch giant catamarans gliding just above the water at incredibly high speeds mere yards offshore, making for an up-close and personal experience you’ve got to see.

4. Breeders’ Cup® World Championships

This November 3–4, experience the excitement of live thoroughbred horse racing when the country’s most prestigious horse-racing event makes its way to the gorgeous Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. 5. Over-The-Line Tournament

Is playing sports on the beach in the summer sun with friends more your thing? Guess what? The Over-The-Line Tournament is literally just that! It’s like a giant, laid-back sports party on the beach, and everyone’s invited. This July 8–9 and 15–16, you can chill with a beer and watch as teams go head to head in this unique take on beach softball, or you can get a couple friends together and enter the contest yourself!

6. Comic-Con® International

Comic-Con is pretty much the nexus of all things comics, superheroes, TV, gaming, and movies rolled into one truly massive annual pop-culture event. From July 20–23, fans from all over the world flock to San Diego for what can only be described as comic book heaven.

7. KAABOO® Del Mar

KAABOO is San Diego’s premier music, arts, comedy, and food festival, and it’s anything but ordinary. Just minutes from the beach, you can catch dozens of musical acts like Muse, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer, Ice Cube, Kesha, and P!nk, all while dancing your butt off with thousands of other die-hard music fans. You can also chill in the huge pool overlooking the Grandview stage as you sip on craft beer and tasty food from local gastropubs or escape the heat in special climate-controlled areas as you watch your favorite stand-up comedians do their thing. On September 15–17, KAABOO is the place to be.

8. San Diego Beer Week

For beer lovers, San Diego is the Craft Beer Capital of America, and Beer Week is the premier event of the year. For 10 glorious days, you can taste the best brews San Diego has to offer, including many unique and one-time microbrews you won’t find anywhere else. There are also beer gardens, culinary pairings, brewery tours, brewing workshops, and more than 500 brewery-sponsored events over the course of the week. And don’t miss the Brewers Guild Festival at the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier!

9. ISA World Adaptive Surfing Championship

The International Surfing Association’s 2017 World Adaptive Surfing Championship is probably the coolest and most inspirational sporting event you’ll ever see. This fall, the world’s best adaptive surfers from around the world represent their nations and take to the water at La Jolla Shores to shred up the shore break.
