It was also reported by The Guardian yesterday that Cumberbatch is related to Richard III as "a second cousin 16 times removed".

He read a poem written by the poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy that had been written for the reburial.

Speaking to Channel 4's Jon Snow afterwards, Cumberbatch said that he couldn't base his portrayal Richard III in The Hollow Crown on today because The Hollow Crown has already finished filming. / Via Channel 4

He also says that he has based his portrayal of Richard III on Shakespeare's work and not the real Richard III.

He also found the whole reburial rather surreal.
