Renowned Author C.W. Shumate Announces Third Book In The Blackberry Tails Series

Are you aware of the fact that the Blackberry serves as the official fruit for the Commonwealth of Kentucky? It’s true, as a lifelong Kentuckian and avid blackberry enthusiast, C.W. Shumate has taken the state fruit namesake and turned it into an award- winning BBQ Sauce, Jams and one of his most serious passions so far, children’s adventure books.

    Renowned Author C.W. Shumate

Shumate’s love of writing led him to write, not just a kid’s book, but a series of the renowned Blackberry Tails children’s adventure books, which was inspired by 4 basic elements, his deep adventure for living creatures (Animals), adventure, folklore, and food. Sounds like a winning combination to me.

After retiring from the corporate world, he opted to write about endearing topics he loved and enjoyed, which is how his kid’s books came into being. By combining his love for things found in the Bluegrass State, children, and animals, the concept Blackberry Tails was born.

The anxiousness and excitement of penning, arranging, and making available into a story in printed words is a dream come true for him. The vision he had, was to make his work motivate adults to communicate to children through reading, thus creating fertile ground for imagination to prosper.

    Gram’s Journey

The first Blackberry Tails started with Gram’s Journey, the series is a captivating hardbound children’s book written by Kentuckian C.W. Shumate and illustrated by accomplished artist L. Clark Uhl. This charming story highlights the tale of Gram, a lost puppy, and his tireless struggle to return home. Along the journey, Gram meets a host of colorful characters including Stubbs, a sassy field mouse who leads and guides Gram with streetwise savvy and sarcastic wit.

Gram also encounters an owl and a snake that pose a threat and suspense for both Gram and his friend Stubbs, the field mouse. Things finally go well for Gram, as he is rescued by his first human friend, Kaylyn, who offers him a home, and new life that promises to be happy and safe.

The experience and story is enjoyable, and there’s more to come about Gram.

In summary, this story tells how Gram grows from joy and perils while tutored by a complete range of colorful characters including Claw, the wicked owl, and Stubbs Gram’s guardian angel. It also tells how Gram traveled from a rural Kentucky roadside to his forever home. Blackberry Tails is an adventurous story loaded with touching and amazing happenings that will trigger and fuel a child’s imagination to make them read continuously.

    Raisin’s Odyssey

The second book in the series entitled Blackberry Tails: Raisin’s Odyssey, also has 32 wonderfully illustrated pages by L. Clark Uhl. Raisin’s Odyssey tells the story of a handsome poodle that was separated from his loving caretaker Mama K, when a scheming dognaper with ill intentions of making quick profit at Raisin’s expense. Raisin was lucky to escape but finds himself lost in rural part of Kentucky until he meets a new friend (a wily old tomcat) named Grinch. The friendship between the handsome poodle (Raisin) and the old tom cat (Grinch) develops as Grinch guides Raisin to safety.

Grinch helps Raisin get back home while they encounter numerous threats including Coy, a wicked coyote, and his evil pack of rogues. Raisin’s Odyssey is filled with non-stop adventure your children will love. In fact, it’s a real page turner.

This classic hardbound first edition of Raisin Odyssey also contains 32 colorful and attractive pages of Raisin’s story and is intended to be read to little ones by an adult, and enjoyed by young readers in the 7-12 years of age range.
