Are some of Yelp's telemarketers pushing the idea of removing bad reviews for businesses that buy advertising on the site?

The story -- most recently in the East Bay Express, but one that has made the rounds of Bay Area publications -- is fraught with contradictions, and unfortunately there's still no recording of one of these calls, but it's certainly not helping the site's profile.
