For my entire adult life, my opinion on Essie nail polish has been "best color selection, ehh quality." So much so that I stopped buying Essie or choosing it at a nail salon because I knew it would chip so quickly. I paint my nails once a week at home and use my hands as much as any millennial — lots of typing, texting, peeling stickers off of new lipsticks, etc. — so I need a polish to last at least 7 days without chipping. Recently, I got the Essie Gel Couture line from a PR rep and decided to give it a try. If it was a new ~gel~ formula, it had to last longer than the polish I avoided for years, right?

RIGHT. First of all, the consistency of the polish (I'm wearing "Sit Me in the Front Row") while you're painting it is so good that you could get away with one coat. It's super pigmented and true to bottle color when it's on your nails. Secondly, they changed the brush design so that it's a longer and rounded in the middle, then tapered on the sides. If you paint your nails regularly you know this is the equivalent to bowling with bumpers. No chance of screwing this up! I'd recommend using the Gel Couture with its sister top coat for the best results. Oh, AND it's designed to be used without a base coat, so my at-home manicures take even less time. 2. Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Foundation lends you lightweight, breathable coverage that doesn't cake up at a *seriously* affordable price.

This foundation came to me in a moment of desperation. I had a party to go to one very sweltering Saturday night, and I was out of foundation (MAC Studio Fix Fluid, if you care to know). And not out of foundation in the "oh if you scrape it out you can get enough to cover your face" kind of way. I'd already done that all week, scraping the bottle out with a makeup spatula to get every damn drop...and wearing less and less coverage as the week went on out of sheer laziness. I just kept putting off schlepping to the MAC store.

So that Saturday, I decided to go to Duane Reade to see what they had for $20 cheaper than MAC (and 20 blocks closer to my apartment). And after some serious aisle meandering, I spied this Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Foundation, which has been in a ton of BuzzFeed posts. It has over 1,000 positive reviews on Amazon and is well under $10. So I bought their palest shade, "Porcelain" and it went on like a dream with my foundation brush. It lasted through the party without a ton of cakiness or smearing. I've worn it every day since then and really quite like it — it feels lightweight, covers evenly, and lasts throughout the day. 3. John Masters Organics Green Tea and Calendula Leave-in Conditioning Mist is low-key one of the easiest ways to treat and fortify your hair — just a few sprays and no washing-off needed.

My hair is naturally wavy, but come summer it tends to go from simply voluminous to straight Cousin Itt. Sure, I could get a keratin treatment, but that costs money that I prefer to spend on burritos and wine. Luckily for me, John Masters is the...master (sorry) at creating life-changing beauty products that are good for both you and the earth. The awesome leave-in conditioning mist that I now use is rich in antioxidants and green tea extracts (and not to mention broccoli seed oil, chamomile extract, and rosemary).

I should also mention that I live in Manhattan, where the humidity is NO JOKE. You've heard of it. You've seen it spamming your Instagram account. You've asked yourself, do I REALLY need to shell out $50 for another Naked palette? Well, look into my eyes, stare deeply into them until you've lightly lost a sense of time: do you feel like you're getting sweatier by the second? Yeah, I know — I'm packing so much fire in this face. The colors in the Naked Heat Palette are scorching hot. They're reminiscent of a sultry summer night under the most heartbreaking sunset. And, if dusting myself to look like the surface of Mars from head to toe were a more acceptable look, I'd wear this palette all over my body.

But there are endless possibilities! And there's a high chance that you're much better at makeup than me, so just imagine how much face you'll serve with the Naked Heat. 5. Too Cool For School Dinoplatz Escalator Mascara instantly adds length and volume to your lashes comparable to, say, the loooong brachiosaurus (too cute!) and skyscraper on its packaging.

First and foremost, Too Cool For School's Dinoplatz Escalator Mascara has the best packaging. The sleeve is inspired by the New York City skyline and looks like a skyscraper. You pull a green box out of the sleeve, revealing an illustrated brachiosaurus. Inside that box you can find the actual mascara, which also has a dinosaur on it. It's basically a nesting doll of cuteness.

The mascara itself has a knob at the top that can be turned to make the mascara head longer or shorter. Shorten it to add volume to your lashes and expand it to lengthen. On the whole, the product works really nicely; it lasts a long time, looks natural, and doesn't clump. When it's time to take off your makeup, the mascara comes off easily. The only issue is that it's not waterproof, so if your eyes tear up a lot, you may have to settle for a dinosaur-less mascara. Anyways, I may have to keep buying it so I can build my own city of little skyscraper boxes. —Bek O'Connell

This is legit the first mascara where after the very first swipe I was like, WHOA, my lashes can really be that long??? I don't know how and why, but I'm not questioning it. I've been lukewarm about most other mascaras I've tried since they kinda just...sit on top of my lashes. I used to always have issues with sweating when I would go out with my friends. The second the bar got a little too hot I'd be drenched and worrying about B.O. all night. I heard really good reviews about DevaCurl from friends, so I walked right into the Cave of Wonders, aka Sephora, and bought their Supercream Coconut Curl Styler. It really truly is SUPER, and even I was surprised by it. Since I’m natural, I usually twist my hair at night with a cream or leave-in conditioner and then fluff it out in the morning for lengthy, defined curls. When I used the Supercream it felt a little heavier than the Carol’s Daughter Combing Creme I had before, but in a good way! So before I went to bed I did what I usually do and the next morning my hair was so soft and free! I was so, so happy with how supple my curls felt! A little really does go a long-ass way with this cream, but it’s a great everyday styler, especially if you want to stretch out your curls without compromising the popping spirals that you live for!

Of course the Supercream has coconut oil included in its formula, which means fellow naturals won’t have to lock in more moisture with their chosen hair oil, especially if their hair isn’t really dry! You can literally skip a step in your routine, babes! I would just like to start by saying this fragrance has made me feel like the baddest bitch on the planet. I first heard about Riddle Oil from our awesome Director of Lifestyle, Peggy Wang, because every time she passed by or whenever we’d have a meeting I would get whiplash because of how great she smelled — it literally stops you in your tracks.

Riddle Oil, a pheromone-based perfume, is a “one of a kind fragrance that works with your body’s natural chemistry.” I chose the original scent which has “a fresh, clean and subtle presence made of musky base notes.” The lovely folks at Riddle sent me the Riddle Oil *plus* the Lotion Spray and Riddle Body Oil. They suggest putting on the lotion first and then the roll-on oil to really let the body chemistry magic happen. The lotion spray comes out nicely and doesn't squirt everywhere; it's not too oily and the smell comes through right away. I put the lotion on my arms and neck, and then dabbed the roll-on oil over my wrists, inner arms and on my neck. Riddle suggests not rubbing the oil in so that the notes of the fragrance are protected.

No one noticed my scent right away, which kind of took me off guard, so I decided to brush it off and go about my day. Fast forward a few days, and people FINALLY began to compliment me. As I was walking to work, a man (who I assumed was a model going to a casting call nearby) stopped me and told me I smelled amazing and he just had to let me know. TELL ME MORE, SIR! I received a few more compliments on my scent during the two weeks that I tested it, and I am truly impressed. I mean, I literally sat outside for 30 minutes and just when I thought I smelled like a wet dog, someone stopped me to compliment my scent. In conclusion, Riddle Oil is amazing and ya girl has some dope pheromones. —Chantal Follins
