Response to How To Thank A Soldier, By George W. Bush:
Not every soldier likes to be thanked. My husband was in Iraq and Afghanistan, and strangers thanking him makes him VERY uncomfortable. Not only does he hate that kind of attention, but he doesn’t feel like civilians really have a reason to thank him in that way. Whether or not that is true could be debated, but it is how he feels. He also hates it when people make a huge deal out of being veterans. I’m not saying that feeling the opposite of this is wrong, I just wouldn’t assume that all soldiers just love it when you come up to them in a restaurant or the airport.
