WTF Is Pioneer Day And Why Do Some People Pronounce It Pie And Beer Day?

Utahkin to me? UTAHKIN TO ME? OK cool I will explain.

On July 24, Utahns celebrate Pioneer Day, or the Latter Day Saints' arrival in Salt Lake City.

Brigham Young led a group of pioneers 1,300 miles into the unchartered American West after facing religious persecution in Nauvoo, Illinois.

Today, Pioneer Day is kind of like a sequel to Independence Day. They have the fireworks.

They have the parades.

They have American flags.

Plus everyone cosplays like they're in the 1800s.

Well maybe not everyone. About fifteen years ago, some non-mormons decided to capitalize on their day off and create another holiday filled with--what else--food and booze.

Behold, Pie and Beer Day was born.

And it was glorious.

So glorious.

Pie and Beer Day has been growing in popularity in recent years.

Is Utah big enough for two holidays in one day?
