This is certainly not helping our American stigma of entitlement. Before people start freaking out: I didn’t mention race, creed, gender, religion, sex, etc. But both my siblings and I have lived abroad in various foreign countries and the stigma remains that lots of people feel as though Americans have a sense of entitlement. And I agree.

Ergo, “break a leg” meaning “I hope they applaud so much and you bow so low you break your leg.” but like I said, it’s just one of a bunch of guesses. There’s no REAL etymology to that specific one.
