Louisiana State Police Detectives Rust Cohle and Marty Hart investigate the strange murder of a bunny along the Gulf Coast in 1995.
Seventeen years later, Rust has left the force and taken up drinking again. When asked about the serial murders by new investigators to the case, he shows the officers how to make swans out of Lone Star beers. “Time is a sugar-coated flat circle,” he says.
Back in 1995, Rust and Marty found a strange mural related to the case in a crumbling church once frequented by the dead bunny.
Years later, Marty learns Rust has been hunting the serial killer from his headquarters in a storage locker. Who is the Yellow King? Where is Carcosa? Who is the Green Man?
Rust shows Marty a disturbing video he’s stolen from a high-ranking official.
And the killer is closer than they realize.
Their detective work leads them to the killer’s compound and his labyrinth, Carcosa.
