Can You Tell If This Is A Real Diet Fad Or Something We Just Made Up?

[The Grapefruit Diet](http://www.grapefruit-diet.org/) is a real diet that was created in the 1930s. Unfortunately, aside from one study conducted by the Florida Department of Citrus, nobody has been able to prove that this actually works.

This is real!

[The Baby Food Diet](http://www.webmd.com/diet/a-z/baby-food-diet) actually exists! It totally doesn't work, though, and it can actually be very unhealthy. Baby food doesn't contain much fiber (which is important for a good digestive system), and some baby foods are surprisingly high in calories.

This is a real diet plan!

But if you thought it was real, it's probably because we came up with a really convincing name for it, so don't feel bad!

This is fake!

Although it's extremely unhealthy because, y'know, [COTTON BALLS ARE NOT FOOD](http://abcnews.go.com/Health/dangerous-diet-trend-cotton-ball-diet/story?id=20942888).

This is actually a real diet!

Why would you eat like a dinosaur? You're not a dinosaur, and the sooner you accept that fact, the sooner we can all move on with our lives.

It's true that warm water helps your body release toxins, which can improve digestion, but consuming nothing but water for most of the day is definitely not healthy!

[The Sleeping Beauty Diet](http://www.dietsinreview.com/diets/the-sleeping-beauty-diet/) was popularized by Elvis Presley, and if you think it sounds super dangerous to replace food with sleeping pills and knock yourself out for hours at a time to avoid food cravings, then you're absolutely right! That's ludicrous.

This is a real diet!

We just made it up. But it sounds pretty convincing, though, right? No? Okay, moving on...

Tapeworms can grow up to 30 feet long, and while they can cause weight loss, they also cause loads of other problems in the human body. The practice of using tapeworms as a dietary aide is now illegal, but [that didn't stop an Iowa woman from ingesting a tapeworm in 2013](http://www.today.com/health/iowa-woman-tries-tapeworm-diet-prompts-doctor-warning-6C10935746) in hopes of losing weight.

This was actually a real diet in the early 20th century!

You could probably tell by how unbelievably dumb it sounds. Plus, movies and food are the perfect combo, so this would never work!

We totally made this one up!

We just made it up. But it would be so crazy if this was a real diet plan...so crazy that it just might work!

It's fake!

[The Cookie Diet](http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/22/fashion/22Skin.html) was created in 1975 by physician Dr. Siegal and has been endorsed by celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Hudson, and Kelly Clarkson. It's spawned a number of spin-off cookie-diet programs, but many critics argue that any diet relying on fewer than 1,000 calories per day is unsustainable in the long run.
