The "To Kill A Mockingbird" Sequel Is Insane

The sequel to Harper Lee’s classic To Kill a Mockingbird, called Go Set a Watchman, is out today.

In it, Scout returns to her hometown 20 years after the events of the first book.

Here's a look at the biggest spoilers from the highly anticipated sequel:

1. Scout eats a bialy for the first time and learns what all the hubbub is about.

2. Jem learns to shut his trap when adults are speaking.

3. Atticus has a few more lessons to teach Scout — and he illustrates all of them by killing dogs.

4. Boo Radley reprises his famous rap ("The name's Boo Radley and I'm here to say / I'm the spookiest neighbor in the USA!").

5. In Chapter 7, the titular watchman is revealed to be Tom Robinson, sent from the afterlife to judge humanity for our sins.

6. After much deliberation, Atticus finally animorphs into a finch and takes to the sky.

7. All of the first book's most famous quotes, including "Racism — it IS a big whoop" and "To kill a mockingbird? Don't mind if I do!" are back, but in surprising new ways.

8. The tree outside Boo Radley's house is now filled with spiders.

9. Sheriff Heck Tate is now running for mayor with the slogan "He'd Be a Heck of a Mayor!"

10. A chapter where Scout rides a train is just "Chugga chugga chugga chugga choo choo" over and over for 30 pages.

11. Every single character kills a mockingbird at some point.

12. Atticus has one last lesson for Scout: that the racism that once tore their town apart will surely be a thing of the past 60 years later.
