Here's What Starbucks' Secret Menu Harry Potter Beverages Taste Like

Did these drinks manage their mischief?

In case you didn't hear the good news, you can order not one, but TWO Harry Potter-themed drinks off of Starbucks' "secret menu."

Sorry to get all Hermione Granger on you, but "secret menu" is a bit of a misnomer...basically you can alter Starbucks beverages a million different ways. It's called customization, people!

Muggles, wizards, and witches alike can make a few ~custom tweaks~ to their favorite beverages and voila, you've transfigured ordinary Starbucks drinks into a Butterbeer Latte or Butterbeer Frappuccino.

Naturally, a few of us BuzzFeed wizards had to see how magical these beverages really where. So we used some Floo Powder* to get to our nearest Starbucks ASAP.

First, we tried the Butterbeer Frappuccino.

For the Butterbeer Frappuccino, order a Crème Frappuccino. Add one pump each of toffee nut and caramel syrup, and finish the drink off with whipped cream and a caramel drizzle!

OK, I was pretty surprised by how much I enjoyed this treat. YES, it was pretty darn sweet — but not so sweet that I would have to go to Madam Pomfrey with cavities after enjoying one. It tasted pretty similar to the frozen Butterbeer which is served at Universal, which is basically canon. Five points to Gryffindor — or should I say, five points to Starbucks!

Witches and wizards beware, this thing was SWEET. It's basically two cups of sugar and a dash of milk for good measure — it tastes like something you'd find at Sugarplum's Sweets Shop on Diagon Alley. If you've got a major sweet tooth, you'll be happy with this. Otherwise, you might wanna resign yourself to muggle life and order yourself a plain old coffee.

I have to be honest, I wasn’t sure how much I’d enjoy this — I am not much of sweets person. When I took the first sip it felt like all of Honeydukes had exploded in my mouth (it was very sweet). But, to my surprise, after taking another few sips the sweetness seemed to mellow out, and I could really taste the salty caramel. Overall I enjoyed it, it reminded me a lot of the Butterbeer they sell at Universal.

Next, we tried the Butterbeer Latte.

To order a Butterbeer Latte, order a latte with whole milk. Then add one pump each of caramel syrup, toffee nut syrup, and cinnamon dolce syrup. Finally, top the drink with whipped cream and salted caramel bits.

I didn't enjoy this drink QUITE as much as I enjoyed the Butterbeer Frappuccino. It wasn't *quite* sweet enough to be a dessert, but not strong enough to count as a coffee (I like my coffee like the Forbidden Forest — dark, and also may cause you to shake with terror). But once I had a few sips, I realized the drink stood on its own merits. It's not GREAT, but not too bad either.

Lord knows I'm not exactly a coffee drinker, but I actually liked this one! The flavors were balanced quite nicely — just the right amount of sweetness to counter the bitterness of the coffee. I also liked that the drink was hot, since that's how I always pictured butterbeer when I read the books. Accio more of this shit, please.

I really enjoyed this drink. For me it struck the perfect balance between being sweet and bitter. It’s a (hot) drink I can imagine sipping on a rainy night, while sitting on a comfy couch in front of the fireplace in the common room. This is the perfect concoction and, best of all, it won’t have you later taking a trip to Diagon Alley to find a dentist.
