Hit Musical "Everybody's Talking About Jamie" Is Being Remade Into A Movie, And It's Sure To Be A "Work Of Art"

Everybody's talking about Everybody's Talking About Jamie!

If you're a musical theatre fan, you'll certainly know of the West-End sensation Everybody's Talking About Jamie, which debuted in the UK back in 2017. Well, the award-winning hit musical about a teen drag queen is now getting a movie adaptation!

The film, from New Regency, Film4, and Warp Films, will be directed by Jonathan Butterell who developed and directed the original stage version. Jonathan's co-creators, Dan Gillespie Sells and Tom MacRae, are also involved in the movie, which will be available to stream on Prime Video later this year!

The musical follows Jamie New, a Sheffield teen who secretly dreams of life on stage as a drag queen. Though he is supported by his mum and best friend Pritti, Jamie must contend with those who would rain on his parade, including his prejudiced father and a school bully.

The story is inspired by true events – namely, the 2011 BBC documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16. The musical premiered at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield in February 2017, before quickly moving to the West End later that year.

The film adaptation will feature newcomer Max Harwood as Jamie, Sarah Lancashire as his mother Margaret, Lauren Patel as Pritti, and Ralph Ineson as Jamie's father.

Also joining the main cast are Irish comedian and star of Catastrophe Sharon Horgan, Coronation Street's Shobna Gulati, Utopia actor Adeel Akhtar, and British screen legend Richard E. Grant as Hugo Battersby/Loco Chanelle, Jamie's drag queen mentor.

The film will feature the songs we all know and love, including "And You Don’t Even Know It", "The Wall In My Head", and "Everybody’s Talking About Jamie". It's also set to include brand new song "This Was Me" performed by Holly Johnson – lead singer of Frankie Goes to Hollywood!
