Sania Mirza Was Playing Pokémon Go To Pass Time Before The Olympics Opening Ceremony

You gotta do what you gotta do.

As the 2016 Olympics opening ceremony took place in Rio, the Indian tennis and hockey teams decided to skip the event, owing to matches early the next morning.

One of the athletes to miss out was top-ranked doubles star Sania Mirza.

Match day tomm.. No opening ceremony for me unfortunately 😞 Will be there in spirit with our contingent 🙋🏽🇮🇳 #Olympics #TeamIndia

But while she waited in her room for the ceremony to begin, she found the perfect way to kill time by making her Pokémon Go debut.

Yeaahhhhh 💪🙋🏽💃🏽💃🏽 #PokemonGo #gottapassmytimesomehow

American tennis player Bethanie Mattek-Sands was amongst the many people amused by Mirza's choice of plans on the night of the biggest event in all of sport.

But as Mirza explained, this was the lemonade she made from the lemons life had handed her.

Unfortunately, as Mirza would soon discover, it turns out that the Olympic athlete's village isn't very conducive to catching Pokémon.

My Pokemons are too far 😂 it's time for a early dinner and then watch the opening ceremony on the big screen in the village 😀 #Olympics 🇮🇳

It's OK, Sania. Forget the Pokémon, you'll hopefully be catching some gold soon.
