On 1 January, Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput appeared on Koffee With Karan, and talked about their marriage and life together.
Amongst other things, Kapoor talked about how he was a big fan of the Indian arranged marriage system.
He also talked about how no one could see them as a couple when his parents first approached her family with the proposal.
And when asked about when they fell in love, Shahid said that it only happened during Mira's pregnancy, after an initial few bumpy months.
The couple's fervent advocation of arranged marriages, a system considered regressive and patriarchal by many, left a lot of people uncomfortable.
Even those who bought their love story had issues with the glorification of the system.
Kapoor's confession about falling in love only after pregnancy seemed to be the comment that irked many.
However, despite the criticism, there were also a bunch of viewers who took heart from the fact that maybe not all arranged marriages have to suck.
