Sam Smith Talked About The Moment That "Triggered" Their Transition To Nonbinary

    All love, Sam.

In March, singer Sam Smith revealed that they are nonbinary in an interview with Jameela Jamil.

“When I saw the nonbinary, genderqueer, and I read into it, and I heard these people speaking, I was like, ‘Fuck, that is me,'" they said in the interview.

Well, in a new interview with Billboard, Sam and Normani talked about their hit, "Dancing With A Stranger."

"I had just gone through a breakup and the last thing I wanted to do was write a sad song,” Sam said.

“I was listening to a lot of really sexy music because it made me feel better, so I wanted the song to capture what I was doing — going to clubs and kissing people.”

“The song launched me into a really beautiful space of writing and freedom,” Smith said.

"There’s a femininity within that song that has ignited a flame within me. It triggered the transition I’ve made into a nonbinary person.”

A beautiful bop that helped Sam come to terms with their identity? Oh yes, we must stan.
