Katy Perry Was Brought To Tears After An "American Idol" Contestant Had A Seizure Onstage
The contestant has vasovagal syncope.
On Monday, American Idol contestant Makayla Brownlee was set to perform "Rainbow" by Kacey Musgraves during Hollywood Week 2: Solo Performances on the show.
While introducing the song, she appeared visibily nervous:
Makayla then started breathing heavily and eventually ran offstage.
She appeared to have collapsed backstage, suffering from a "panic attack seizure," according to Idol.
"In seventh grade, I was diagnosed vasovagal syncope. It's a heart condition that causes me to react to stress differently and it could cause a seizure," Makayla explained.
Makayla went to get checked out, producers said.
But just a few hours later, SHE WAS BACK.
And slayed her rendition of "Rainbow." Her low notes and delicate voice moved me so much.
Katy was me — crying and so proud.
Katy was definitely moved by Makayla's strength.
"Ah...perspective, right?" Katy said.
Way to go, Makayla. Rooting for you.
