Taylor gave a beautiful stripped-down performance of the ballad on the piano.
Through the performance, Taylor held back tears as she sang the deeply emotional song, which many assume is about her mother's battle with cancer.
Taylor always gives moving performances and makes us feel every word when she sings. But performing this was a bigger deal than most people realize because of how emotional the song is.
On CBS Sunday Morning, Taylor talked about the song. "There's one song on the album, called 'Soon You'll Get Better.' I can't even listen to it."
"I don't think I've written a song quite like that before. It's just a tough one. It's not something that we deal with until we have to — until we see it, until we experience it, until someone close to us is going through something like that. So, writing about it is really emotional."
It's also an important performance because Taylor even told Billboard she's not sure if she'll ever perform it live. "That's a song I don't know if I'll ever play it live," she said. "It's just really difficult for me. It was hard to write. It's hard to sing. It's hard to listen to for me. But sometimes, music is like that. Sometimes it's not just about stuff that was pleasant to feel."
I don't blame Taylor, the lyrics are heart-wrenching:
Performing the song was so appropriate because the country feels like it's healing right now, and having Taylor put herself out there for the world is so beautiful.
Thank you, Taylor, for always giving a piece of yourself to make us feel less alone.
