12 Times Celebs Made Anti-Gay Or Anti-Trans Comments In The Last Year

SMFH.

It's Pride Month, which is amazing. However, in the past year, there's been unprecedented discrimination and prejudice against LGBTQ folk and an alarming amount of anti-LGBTQ legislation.

It's also surprisingly been a year of moving backward when it comes to celebs supporting the LGTBQ community, so it's important to realize that homophobia and transphobia are still sadly alive.

Here are 13 times celebs were homophobic or transphobic in the past year:

1. Too Hot to Handle star Harry Jowsey called James Charles the f-slur on the Tap In podcast:

2. DaBaby described people living with HIV as "nasty" and "junkies":

After saying that people living with HIV are "junkies" and "nasty," DaBaby faced a lot of backlash from celebrities and fans. He eventually issued a semi-apology.

3. And then Dave Chappelle joked about the situation in his Netflix special The Closer.

4. In The Closer, Chappelle also did a whole anti-trans bit about Caitlyn Jenner winning Woman of the Year:

"Her first year as a woman — ain't that something? Never even had a period — ain't that something?" he said.

5. Boosie BadAzz went on a wild anti-gay Twitter rant about Lil Nas X:

Boosie didn't apologize, but Lil Nas X did address the rant with joke tweet:

i am truly saddened. i have never been so mortified in my life. i can’t believe disney channel has yet to play halloween town this entire october.

6. Ricky Gervais was called out for the anti-trans jokes in his Netflix special Supernature:

7. And he did a weird bit about how "amazing" AIDS is and how God sent it to Africa because "they're dying anyway":

GLAAD vehemently condemned the special in a thread on Twitter:

Attention Ricky and Netflix: people living with HIV today, when on effective treatment, lead long and healthy lives and cannot transmit HIV to others. U=U 2/4

8. Kid Rock tweeted this about the f-slur:

If Kid Rock using the word faggot offends you, good chance you are one. Either way, I know he has a lot of love for his gay friends and I will have a talk with him. Have a nice day. -Bob Ritchie

Speaks for itself, SMH.

9. Kendrick Lamar's song "Auntie Diaries" garnered controversy after Kendrick — who identifies as straight — said the f-slur multiple times:

10. Matt Damon recently admitted he JUST stopped using the f-slur because of his daughter (like girl, you're just stopping now??):

11. While criticizing Pete Buttigieg's run as mayor of South Bend, conservative pundit Tucker Carlson went on a weird, anti-gay rant about him taking paternity leave:

Pete responded to the rant. "Well, look, in his case, I guess he just doesn’t understand the concept of bottle feeding, let alone the concept of paternity leave.”

12. And lastly, Pete Davidson made a joke about getting AIDS from a public restroom on SNL:

"I was already so anxious before the pandemic. My brain didn't have room for something new to panic about. I can't start being afraid public restrooms will give me COVID, when I was already afraid public restrooms would give me AIDS." For the record, that's obviously not possible.
