16 Super-Awkward Moments From The 2021 Oscars

"My mom met my dad. They had sex. It's amazing."

If you're like me, you love the awkward moments during awards shows. And despite being a prestigious affair, the Oscars were still home to some quality cringe/uncomfortable moments this year.

The Oscar award

Here are some of the best. Enjoy!

1. I have no clue why, but stars took fake shots on the red carpet:

Someone give Viola Davis an Oscar just for this performance of her pretending to take a shot #Oscars

The hottest new trend on the #Oscars red carpet? Taking a fake shot. First Viola Davis, now Maria Bakalova. Who's next?

2. Red carpet interviews were suuuuper socially distanced:

3. There was an awkward back-and-forth period of silence between preshow hosts Nina Parker, Karamo Brown, and Giuliana Rancic:

Nina Parker saying, "Wait, we gotta go back over to Giuliana"
Giuliana saying, "Oh?!"

4. The producers of this year's show — Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher, and Steven Soderbergh — had an awk step-and-repeat moment:

#Oscars Wow. Do they look uncomfortable being asked to stand so close by the assistant. Social distancing? I guess we’re done with that now. 😳

5. In an awkward — albeit adorable — moment, Florian Zeller's wife came over and kissed his back mid-speech:

6. Daniel Kaluuya won Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Judas and the Black Messiah, and in his speech he hilariously/awkwardly said, "We need to celebrate mom met my dad. They had sex. It's amazing."

Daniel's mom looking shocked and his sister holding her head in her hands

7. People were not here for the natural-lighting situation goin' on:

The lighting at the pandemic #Oscars makes it looks like all these famous people put on ball gowns to have a pep rally in the middle school gym/auditorium

8. Regina King called out absurd movie ticket prices at the Oscars (LOL) after it was shared that Christopher Hampton used to go to the movies three times a week:

Regina King saying, "I bet tickets weren't $13 apiece back then"

9. "Live and Let Die" was the walk-off song after Chloé Zhao's win, which was definitely a bizarre choice:

10. People were also like, "Um, why is Misha Collins at the Oscars???"

11. While presenting, Reese Witherspoon did an impression of Robert DeNiro in Taxi Driver:

Reese saying, "'You talkin' to me?' Do I sound like him?"

12. And she also made this joke, which kinda fell flat:

Reese saying, "Arnar Gunnarsson and Gísli Darri Halldórsson's love affair with animation began with 'Star Wars'; the Force is very strong with those two"

13. Brad Pitt mispronounced Yuh-Jung Youn's name:

"And the Oscar goes to 'Juh'-Jung Youn"

14. Halle Berry mispronounced Erik Messerschmidt's name twice:

"And the Oscar goes to Erik 'Messenschmidt'"

15. During an Oscars trivia segment, Lil Rel Howery asked Andra Day whether "Purple Rain" by Prince was nominated for an Oscar. She called out the academy and said it "probably wasn't" and then was censored:

Andra Day saying, "It's a brilliant song, but it probably wasn't even nominated"

16. And lastly, Glenn Close gave us a little glimpse of her dancing when asked whether she knew the song "Da Butt" from Spike Lee's School Daze soundtrack:
