Delbert Belton, a World War II veteran from Spokane, Wash., died Thursday morning.
According to witnesses, Belton was walking in the parking lot of a local Eagles Lodge when two male suspects attacked him.
Belton, who went by Shorty, fought in the Pacific Theater of World War II, surviving being wounded in action during the Battle of Okinawa.
According to Belton's friends in the community he was a nice old man who spent his days fixing cars and his evenings playing pool.
The two suspects responsible for the attack are still at large.
Belton's beating shocked both his local community...
...and the Internet at large, with some users drawing connections between Belton's attackers and Trayvon Martin.
Spokane police told the press that they are looking for two African Americans between 16 and 19 years old.
