Mark Duggan's Family Has Won The Right To Appeal Against "Lawful Killing" Verdict

The family of Duggan, who was shot dead by a police marksman in 2011, will be granted the right to a full appeal.

The family of Mark Duggan, the 29-year-old man who was shot and killed by police in Tottenham, north London, in August 2011, have been granted permission to appeal against the finding that he was "lawfully killed".

On Tuesday, an application made by the family to launch a full appeal against the High Court ruling was approved by Lord Justice Sales.

A public inquest, which ran from September 2013 to January 2014, concluded that Duggan's death, which sparked the London riots in 2011, was "lawful" with an 8-2 majority.

Duggan's relatives and friends were "devastated" at the verdict.

His mother, Pam Duggan, strongly criticised the decision, and said last January: "They [the police] know that they have killed my son."
