The Wage Gap Is As Real As Lady Gaga Singing The Sound Of Music
Both are very real and both need to be accepted. After Patricia Arquette's speech, I immediately tweeted "wooooo hell yeah Patricia Arquette with dat speech. Equal pay for equal work yes yes yesss." I then watched the remainder of the show and proudly went to bed and dreamed of equal rights for women. Unfortunately, I woke to find my Facebook inundated with articles such as "Patricia Arquette Sets Internet on Fire by Making Oscars Political- But Does She Have All the Facts?" As a matter of fact, it seems she did have the facts but the author of ths article, and those commenting like animals on it, do not. A woman in the comments stated "Maybe I would have paid attention to what she was saying if she brushed her hair," but don't even get me started on that. They try to argue that since there was the Equal Pay Act of 1963, there are no problems in the world and everything is ice cream and unicorns. If that were the case, why would there be a need for the Paycheck Fairness Act? The most painful part is the list of reasons the author states for the wage gap not being legitimate such as "The pay gap is closing rapidly," - there has been little progress in closing the pay gap in over a decade. "Women earn less because they don't negotiate well," - well that seems rather assumptious! Where are the facts in these statements is all I am asking. I'll start taking these sources seriously when they start speaking like educated human beings.
