I'm a second-generation American of Chinese ancestry. Grew up in Long Beach, CA, attending Tincher Elementary, Hill Jr. High, and Millikan High School. From 4th through 9th grades, I played the violin and was in the school orchestra. Was in the Long Beach All-City Orchestra for many of those years and attended Arrowbear Music Camp in the summer of 1974. In high school I spent most of my time with the Army JROTC unit, where I was Battalion Commander and Drill Team Commander my senior year. Went to UCLA, graduating in 1982 with a Bachelors degree in Microbiology. While at UCLA, I coxed for two years with the UCLA crew, joined the UCLA Karate Club (Shotokan) for six months (earned 1st level green belt), worked at the Chemistry Library, and participated in the UCLA Field Studies Developmental Disabilities Immersion Program (DDIP) in 1980. After graduating, I worked in the Legionnaires Disease Research Lab at the Wadsworth VA Medical Center in West Los Angeles. Shortly thereafter, I moved to Sydney Finegold's Anaerobe Research Lab at the same location. In 1987, I received a Certificate in Programming from Control Data Corporation. Shortly afterwards, I worked for Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo as a Management Systems Analyst. In 1989, I went to Computer Sciences Corp (now CSC), where I am today. My wife, Iris, and I were married in 1990 and we have two daughters, Stephanie and Morgan.
