Residents in the Melbourne suburb of Broadmeadows and surrounding areas are being warned to stay indoors as a huge fire burns out of control at a local tyre yard.
The fire, which began early on Monday morning, has already destroyed 130,000 tyres - around half of the 100 metre x 30 metre tyre yard.
"It's proving to be quite a challenging fire and crews are doing their best to get it under control but it will take some time," Incident Controller David Youssef said.
"There's a lot of energy and fuel in this fire but the community can be confident we will control this issue," he said.
Plenty of people are pointing out that this could be Melbourne's chance to have its very own Springfield tyre fire.
Meanwhile, water bombing helicopters have been brought in to get the fires under control, as locals say the heat from the flames can be felt 100 metres away.
Residents in the area are being told to stay indoors, close all doors and windows and turn off all venting and cooling systems. It's hoped that some late showers will assist crews on Monday afternoon.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
