Director Sean Baker Is Back With A New Movie Called "Red Rocket" — Here's Why It's A Must-See For Film Lovers

Looking for your next best indie film fix? We've got you sorted.

Calling all film lovers — we've got an epic new recommendation that's about to go straight to the top of your summer watch-list.

Award-winning American film director, Sean Baker — the brilliant mind behind Tangerine and The Florida Project — is back to grace our movie screens with a brand new film: Red Rocket.

And Red Rocket has already garnered loads of critical acclaim, following a standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as a stellar premiere at the Deauville Film Festival — where it won both the Critics Award and Jury Prize.

The film is led by actor, rapper and comedian, Simon Rex, who plays Mikey Saber — a washed-up porn star who returns, broke and dishevelled, to his small Texas hometown to start anew.

Homeless and jobless, Mikey begs his estranged wife, Lexi (Bree Elrod), who still lives with her mother (Brenda Deiss), to take him in for "a couple days".

Then he meets the kind-hearted, endearingly optimistic, Strawberry (Suzanna Son) — a donut shop worker, who tells Mikey she thinks it's "cool" he decided to get into porn and be paid for doing the thing he "loves most".

In her breakout role as Strawberry, Suzanna Son is incandescent — delivering a huge on-screen presence that defies her tiny 4'11" stature.

And the supporting cast is pure dynamite — with Baker staying true to his preference for casting mostly unknown, inexperienced talent, who drive the kind of raw authenticity and relatability that make Baker's films such a delight to watch.

Red Rocket is dropping in select Australian Cinemas on January 6, 2022 — trust us when we say you're not going to want to miss out.
