3. In fact they make quite a lot of different varieties of wine.
4. And at a tasting event last week I got to try some.
Lead singer Patrick Monahan told me the band had come up with the idea of making wine for their fans around four or five years ago.
5. “We’re a San Francisco band so we started thinking about ‘we need to create a culture for people to grasp onto the band’ and in America and there’s one place to make good wine – and that’s northern California.”
“So we thought how can we bring this to our fans around the country and earn money for our favourite charity, which is called Family House in San Francisco, which houses lower-income families and sick kids who need to go to a hospital and that combination really worked out.”
6. So far around two and a half million bottles of the band’s wine have been sold, raising considerable amounts of money for the charity.
“The wine business is not a money-making business, for some reason we’ve been very fortunate and blessed,” Monahan added.
