Finan, a project manager at an IT company, said the couple’s obsession with the yellow creatures had completely taken over their big day.
"It's just spiralled out of control," the 44-year-old told North-West Evening Mail.
"We were sat out the back and talking about [wedding] themes and it just came up in conversation. We had a laugh about it.
"At first it was just going to be the cake. Then it was cuff links. Then the place cards. It has got a little out of hand."
Thomas said they had to go through with the theme after he got a tattoo of a Minion bride and groom on his leg to celebrate their wedding day.
"I've got to go through with it now after getting this tattoo," the 52-year-old told North-West Evening Mail before the wedding.
"It's just superb. We just wanted it to be different. I watched the films and I thought they were brilliant."
Finan said she and Thomas had each been married before so decided to add a bit of humour to their big day.
"All the guests think we are bonkers but it's our sense of humour," the BBC quoted her as saying.
Here's hoping this is the first of many Minion weddings.
