The incident occurred near NuBar in Loughton.

Paul Saunders, 30, of Grays, Essex, is set to appear at Chelmsford magistrates' court today, Essex police said.

The victim, said to be in his twenties, suffered "life-changing" injuries after allegedly being attacked with a knife near NuBar in Loughton just before midnight on Friday.

Essex police said the man had been on a night out with a group of friends and was attacked in the street.

Two men, aged 19 and 21 and also from Grays, who were arrested over the weekend in connection with the incident have been released on bail until February.

The victim is still in hospital in a serious but not life-threatening condition, police said.
